Your first stop will be Damnoen saduak Floating Market. Damnoen saduak Floating Market in Ratchaburi is one of the most popular floating markets in Thailand. Every day many Thai and foreign tourists travel here to shop, eat, and absorb the atmosphere of Thailand water markets that have been like this for over a 100 years.
Damnoen Saduak is the straightest and longest canal in Thailand. The canal was built on royal initiative as King Rama IV of Thailand wanted to link the Mae Klong River with Chinese river ways to support transportation and trade.
It took over 2 years to dig, and was eventually finished under the reign of his successor King Rama V. The canal is 32 kilometers long and has more than 200 branches.
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market’s popularity grew to new heights in 1971-1973 when the river was full of farmers on their boats selling their wares. And that is the way trade is performed in this area until todays.
The best way to experience the Damneon Saduak floating market is on a boat so you’ll get to see all the different stalls and get immersed in the local culture. You’ll find many stores within the wooden boats at the side of the canal selling unique items from fresh fruits to local snacks!
The locals do farming and agricultural work for a living and bring their vegetables and fruits such as chilis, onions, coconut sugars, guavas, rose apples, and pomelo to exchange and sell at the floating market in their boats. This Floating Market still remains the villagers’ way of life in nature.
With vendors and customers jamming the narrow waterways with their rowing boats, you can definitely call this an entertaining/unusual (albeit touristy) experience.
You will see Thai traditional village life, old Thai houses, greenish gardens and temples. On arrival the Floating Market, almost untouched by the Modern World. At the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, you can see active market life of people selling and buying things on their boats. There are different boats in all shapes and sizes and you can find variety of local goods, food, and fruits.
Then you will visit Chang Puak Camp Damnoen Saduak. Chang Puak Camp Damnoen Saduak Park is one of the distinctive destinations that you can experience in Ratchaburi. The park offers a variety of recreational activities that suit different age groups. This makes it an ideal place to spend the day with your families and children. The park includes activities such as riding elephants and watching special shows, in addition to some recreational camps that include many activities and special entertainment events.
